Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa
(subclass 191)

The Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) (subclass 191) visa is for people who have lived, worked and studied in a designated regional area in Australia on a previous, eligible visa.

To be eligible, you must:

  • hold an eligible visa (subclass 491 or subclass 494) and have lived for at least 3 years on that visa in a designated regional area (most locations of Australia outside major cities (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) are classed as designated regional areas for migration purposes);
  • have had a taxable income at or above a specific income threshold for at least three years while holding your eligible visa (noting that the amount is to be released by the Department at a later date); and
  • both primary and secondary applicants have complied with the conditions of the eligible visa you hold or have held.

This visa will allow you to stay in Australia permanently, work and study onshore, enrol in Medicare, sponsor relatives to come and join you, travel to and from Australia for 5 years and if eligible, apply for Australian citizenship at a later date.
